| A can az első módbeli segédige az angolban, amit érdemes megtanulnod! Mik is azok a módbeli segédigék? A sima segédigéket (auxiliary verbs) kérdés és tagadás képzésére használjuk, és minden igeidőnek magvan a maga saját segédigéje. A módbeli segédigék pedig ahogy a nevük is mutatja megváltoztatják egy kicsit az ige jelentését, módját: | I swim. | Úszom. | | I can swim. | Tudok úszni. | Egyéb módbeli segédigék lehetnek a could, may, might, would, stb például. A can segédigének sok jelentése van, de mielőtt rátérnénk a jelentésekre, nézzük az általános tudnivalókat: · önmagában jelen időre vonatkozik · nem kell ragozni semmilyen számban és személyben, tehát minden létező alany után a segédige can lesz · kérdés és tagadás feltevésekor nem kell más segédigét (pl. do) használni: Can you drive? Can she play the guitar? · a can után rögtön az igét (pl: go) tesszük, és nem főnévi igenevet (pl: to go) használunk (Ezt azért emelem ki, mert nagyon sok magyarnak gondot okoz ez, amikor szó szerint próbálják a mondatokat lefordítani: Tudok úszni I can swim. Láthatod, hogy a magyar a tudni ige után főnévi igenevet tesz (úszni), míg az angol a can után csak az igét to nélkül.) · jövő időben a can helyett a to be able to szerkezetet kell majd használni · múlt időben a can ből could lesz (bár nem mindig, erről majd később) · a can nek két formája is van tagadásban:cannot (ez egy kicsit formálisabb) és a cant A can-nek 3 fő jelentése van, ezeket fogjuk most egyenként megnézni: - képesség (ability)
